To make the Valentine heart mini pillows you will only need felt and cushion filling. Once done, you can customize them with the method of your choice. Below I will show you the method I will use.

Materials to Make These Cute Valentine Heart Mini Pillows.

Video tutorial in my YouTube channel

Step 1

Cut a heart-shaped paper template measuring 6 1/2″ by 5 1/5″ = 16.5 by 14 cm. Fold the felt in two, lay out the template, secure with pins and cut around.

Step 2

Remove the paper template and sew around leaving a 1/2″ or 1 cm seam allowance. Leave a 2″ gap to fill with the foam.

If you are not going to personalize them, fill them with the cushion foam. I am using green foam, but for white cushions it is preferable to use white foam. Once filled with foam, sew the space we left to fill.

Step 3: Customizing the Valentine heart mini pillows

If you want to personalize the mini cushions, it is preferable that you personalize them before filling them. [Although it can also be customized already filled if you prefer]

I am going to personalize the first one with iron on vinyl hearts.

Cut out little hearts, place them on top of the pillow case with the glossy side up, place a piece of cloth or paper and iron until they stick.

It is now ready to be filled with the cushion foam. After stuffing, sew the opening.

The second one will be customized with text.

I have cut these words with iron-on vinyl using my Cricut machine. If you would like to know more about how to personalize with vinyl, click here to see the tutorial. You could also buy the letters already cut in thermo-adhesive textile vinyl. Amazon has a nice selection.

Once you have the phrases or words ready, place them in the center of the felt heart, put a piece of cloth or paper on top and iron until they stick. Fill with the foam and then sew to close the opening.

The personalized mini felt cushions are ready!! I will use them to decorate a coffee table in the living room of my house, but they are also beautiful for gifts, party favors or even as surprise gifts for your children’s schoolmates.
