Equipment and Supplies Needed
Printers
First, we are going to start talking about which printers you can use. You can buy a special printer for sublimation. Such as the EPSON SureColor F170 and the SureColor F570 sublimation printers, the first one prints from letter to legal size and the F570 prints up to 24” wide. You could also load it with 17” and 24” wide sublimation paper rolls. Suggested retail price for the SureColor F170 Dye-Sublimation Printer is $399.00 and the Epson SureColor F570 is $2,895.00.

Now, there is a more affordable option. You could convert a regular printer into a sublimation printer. The printers that you could convert into sublimation are those that do not use heat when printing. For example, most EPSON EcoTank printers do not use heat when printing so they could be converted into sublimation printers. Pricing for these Epson EcoTank printers starts at $199.00 and up. You can choose the one that best suits your needs.
I have converted an Epson EcoTank ET2720, an ET3760 and an ET15000 printer and they have all worked perfectly for me without any problem. The first two print letter and legal size, the last one prints letter, legal, 11” x 17” and 13” x 19” sizes. If you would like to learn how to convert an Epson EcoTank printer into a sublimation printer, I invite you to visit me on my YouTube channel. There I have many tutorials on this subject that could help you.

Sublimation Ink
As for the ink, we must use a special dye ink for sublimation. I use HIIPOO brand sublimation ink. It comes in two forms, syringe fill and non-syringe fast fill. You can choose the one that best suits your needs.
Sublimation Paper
To print the designs, you will need special sublimation paper. Although some people say you can use regular printing paper, I like to use ASub brand sublimation paper. ASUB sublimation paper comes in the following sizes: Letter, A4, Legal, 11” x 17” and 13” x 19”.
Sublimation Designs
To work and print your sublimation designs, you will need a computer and graphic design program. There are many graphic design programs that you could purchase for this process such as CorelDRAW and Photoshop. If you can’t buy one of these programs, don’t worry. There are also FREE options that work just as well for you. Inkscape and Canva are my two favorites. If you would like to learn how to print designs for sublimation with Inkscape and Canva, I invite you to visit me on my YouTube channel. I have many tutorials on this topic for you.
¿What Can you Sublimate?
Speaking of fabrics, the fabrics or shirts you can sublimate should be mostly polyester. From 65% polyester onwards. The higher the percentage, the better the result. In addition, these have to be white or super light colors.
You can also sublimate hats, ceramic mugs, ceramic tiles, tumblers, sequin fabric, glass, wood and more. If you would like to learn how to sublimate your first articles and garments, I invite you to visit me on my YouTube channel. There I have many tutorials where I show the sublimation process in t-shirts, mugs, tumblers, tiles, sequins and more.

Heat Press Machines
To transfer the design to the garment or item, you will need a heat press. The heat press machine type will be according to the item or garment you will sublimate. For fabric or flat items, you will need a flat heat press machine. I use a 15” x 15” VEVOR Heat Press Machine.
On the other hand, to sublimate mugs and tumblers, you will need a heat press for mugs or tumblers. For the mugs I use the Cricut brand mug heat press and the Realkant brand mug heat press. To Sublimate tumblers, I use the PYDLife tumbler press. If you get the PYDLife tumbler press, you no longer have to order a mug press as you can sublimate mugs and tumblers with this one.
If you want to sublimate caps, you will need a cap press. I use this VEVOR brand cap press.
There are a wide variety of very good heat presses for sublimation. Choose the one that best suits your needs.
Getting Started with Sublimation: Accessories Needed
To complete the sublimation process, it is necessary to use certain accessories. Lint roller to clean the surface, heat-resistant tape to secure the design to the garment or item, white butcher paper to protect the garment, heat-resistant gloves to prevent burns, and heat-resistant surface to put on items like sublimated mugs and tumblers when hot.
Conclusion:
For getting started with sublimation, you will need a printer with special sublimation ink, sublimation paper, a computer, graphic design software, heat press depending on what you are going to sublimate, and necessary accessories.
