For last Christmas I made several decorative bags to give some bottles of wine to my friends. To my surprise, everyone was more delighted with the gift bag than the bottle of wine. There came the idea of creating a sewing tutorial so that you too can also learn how to make these beautiful wine bottle gift bags. I assure you that you will impress them when you give these away!

What Fabric to Use?
The process of making wine bottle gift bags is very simple. The most difficult part for me is to choose the pattern and the colors of the fabric since I have a variety of beautiful fabrics. If you, like me, are a bit obsessed with buying fabrics, you can understand me.
The types of fabrics that I use the most to make these gorgeous wine bottle gift bags are cotton or polyester fabrics if I want to make them with lining or reversible. Now, if I want to make them without lining, I use canvas cotton fabric since it is a little thicker and gives stability.

Do you need to personalize the wine bottle gift bags?
If I need to personalize them either with heat transfer vinyl, iron on, applications or screen printing, I prefer to use solid colors.
In the event that you want to personalize them with the sublimation technique, it is necessary to use 75% polyester fabric in solid and light colors.
On the other hand, if I just want them that way without personalizing with any other method, I prefer to use patterned fabrics. I love combining two or three colors to make them unique and striking.

Let’s Get to Work!
Step 1: Get the Fabric Ready
Cut the fabric according to the following measurements.
2] 7” x 15” = 17.8 x 38cm
2] 7” x 17 1/2 = 17.8 x 44.5 liner
2] 7” x 6” = 17.8 x 15.2cm pocket
1] 32” = 80cm for the bow

Step 2: Assemble the Pocket
Sew allowance for the entire project: 1/4″
Grab the two pieces of fabric that measure 7″ by 6″. Place them one on top of the other with the right side inside. Measure 3 inches from the bottom to the top and draw a line from there to the opposite top corner.

Cut and sew only on that side leaving a 1/4″ allowance. Turn inside out and iron.

Step 3: Sewing the Wine Bottle Gift Bag
Place the two larger pieces on the bottom and place the two smaller ones on top, secure with pins, and sew on top.

Turn right side over, fold in half so there is a fringe above the seam, and iron.

Lay the two pieces on top of each other, align and cut a 1 1/4″ square in each bottom corner.

Time to place the pocket. We will place this 3″ above the cut corners. Pass seam, lift it up, line it up and secure with pins.

Unfold, place and align the two pieces leaving the right side inside. Secure with pins. Mark two 3/4″ spaces 3″ down the main fabric. This to insert the ribbon. Mark a 4 or 5″ space on the lining. This will be used to turn it inside out. Sew all the way around except for marked corners and spaces.

Now, sew the corner.

Turn it inside out, sew the lining opening and insert the lining inside the bag, accommodating the corners well.

Pass two seams leaving the openings that we left above to insert the ribbon in the center.

Step 4: insert the Ribbon
Using a cloth pin, insert the tie strip into one of the openings above.

¡¡Voila!!
Here is the finished wine bottle gift bag with a pocket to insert a card or cork opener.

The gift bags for wine bottles are beautiful! Perfect for all occasions.
You can make the combination of colors that you want and choose the fabrics according to how you are going to personalize them.
