First Impressions of the TOOCAA NOVA

When I first received the TOOCAA NOVA 20W Diode Laser Engraver, the first thing I noticed was how compact and well designed it is.

Unlike many laser engravers that look very industrial, this one feels more like a modern desktop appliance. That’s a big plus for creators who work from home studios, craft rooms, or shared spaces.

The TOOCAA NOVA 20W Laser Engraver comes well packaged and protected, and the setup is straightforward. Everything is organized inside the box, including:

  • The 20W diode laser module
  • Smart Air Assist
  • Built-in camera positioning system
  • Materials to start testing
  • And in my bundle, a rotary attachment for cylindrical engraving

For beginners, this is a huge advantage because you’re not dealing with complicated assembly.

Why the 20W Version Matters

The TOOCAA NOVA 20W Laser Engraver comes in different power options, but the one I tested is the 20W diode version.

For creators and small business owners, this makes a difference because the extra power allows you to:

  • Cut thicker materials
  • Work faster
  • Produce cleaner engravings
  • Expand the range of projects you can sell

For example, with the 20W version I was able to test engraving and cutting wood projects, which are very popular in craft businesses.

My First Project: Engraving a Coaster

To test engraving quality, I started with a simple coaster project.

First, I ran a line engraving, which is very fast and works great for minimalist designs or outlines. Then I flipped the coaster and ran a filled engraving to compare results.

Both came out clean and precise, which is exactly what you want when making personalized items to sell or gift.

Next, I wanted to test something more detailed.

Using one of the wood pieces included with the machine, I created a decorative trellis design for plants. These types of items are very popular among plant lovers and home décor shoppers.

What impressed me most was how clean the cuts were.

The design was very intricate, but the machine cut it without burning, shadows, or messy edges.

As someone who runs a craft business, that matters a lot. Clean cuts mean:

  • Less sanding
  • Less cleanup
  • Faster production time

Creating Products for a Craft Business

One thing I always consider when testing a machine is:

With the TOOCAA NOVA 20W Laser, the answer is definitely yes.

In my test project, I made mini plant trellises, which are perfect for spring and garden lovers. When placed inside potted plants, they add a cute decorative touch.

Rotary Engraving: Tumblers and Cylindrical Items

Another feature I tested was rotary engraving. The TOOCAA NOVA does cylindrical engraving using a rotary attachment, which allows you to engrave items like:

  • Tumblers
  • Mugs
  • Glass bottles
  • Cups

Setting up the rotary accessory was surprisingly simple. After rotating the laser module and securing the attachment, I engraved a 20 oz skinny tumbler with a small test design.

The engraving came out very detailed and clean.

For small business owners selling personalized drinkware, this feature alone can open a lot of product opportunities.

Software Options: Toocaa Studio vs LightBurn

The machine can work with LightBurn, which many experienced laser users already know.

However, I personally liked using Toocaa Studio because it simplifies the process.

Inside the software you can:

  • Select the material
  • Automatically apply recommended settings
  • Use the camera positioning system
  • Preview your design placement

For beginners especially, this helps reduce the trial-and-error phase.

Who This Machine Is Best For

After testing the TOOCAA NOVA 20W Diode I think it’s best suited for:

People who want a laser engraver without a complicated learning curve.

Especially those selling personalized products.

Who want to create home décor, gifts, and small projects.

My Final Thoughts

Overall, I had a great experience testing the TOOCAA NOVA 20W Diode

What stood out to me most was:

  • Clean engraving and cutting

  • Helpful software with automatic settings
