Necessary Materials
- DTF printer. I use my 13″ wide Procolored L1800 and my DTF printer K8 – K13 8 and 13″ wide
- Gold or silver foil film for DTF | I used gold color but there is other options
- DTF Powder
- Oven to cure designs
- Automatic press I use my HTVRONT AutoPress and also my VEVOR heat iron that is manual and smaller
- Lint remover roller to clean the shirts before personalizing and to clean excess foil.
- Teflon sheets | Parchment paper
- Love termica
- T-shirts or clothing items of any color and can be cotton and polyester.

Step by Step
1. Design and Preparation for Printing
For this project, we will use the ProRip program, which comes with the Procolored printer. It is important that the designs are simple and have a transparent background. If you would like to use this design, you can download it from here [FREE]. The designs usually come in black, but to print in white, follow these steps:
- Open the design in ProRip.
- Go to the printer properties and disable unnecessary colors, leaving only the white layers active.
- Make sure the design is in mirror mode before printing.
If your DTF printer is A4, rotate the design to make the most of the space. If you use an A3 printer, you can work with rolls for larger designs.
2. DTF Powder Application and Design Curing
- Apply a generous amount of DTF powder over the printed design and shake off the excess.
- Cures the design in a DTF oven at 120°C (250°F) for 180 seconds.
- If you don’t have a DTF oven, you can use a heat press without closing completely, just until the powder melts.
3. Transfer of the Design to the Garment
We are going to personalize a black t-shirt and a tote bag with gold foil. Follow these steps:
- Garment preparation: Press for 10 seconds to remove wrinkles and wipe with a lint remover roller.
- Align the design on the garment with the print touching the fabric.
- Pressing: Place one teflon sheet above and press:
- For the shirt: Use the HTVRONT automatic press at 305°F for 15 seconds with 50 pounds of pressure.
- For the tote bag: Use the VEVOR heat iron at 315°F for 15 seconds.
4. Film Removal and Final Finishing
- Let cool completely before removing the film.
- Carefully remove the film to reveal the design.
- Use a lint remover roller to remove any excess foil particles.
- Final pressing: Place a sheet of Teflon or parchment paper and press for 10 seconds to set the design.
Final Result
The result is spectacular: a gold metallic design with a professional and eye-catching finish. This technique is ideal for t-shirts, bags and others garments, giving an exclusive touch to your creations.
Bonus: Alternative without DTF Printer
