What are custom embroidered patches?

Custom embroidered patches are fabric designs with high-quality threads that can be adhered to different surfaces using heat, adhesive or Velcro. They are an excellent option to personalize without the need to invest in an embroidery machine.

Where to order custom embroidered patches?

For this tutorial, I ordered my patches in Ninja Transfer, a platform that allows you to easily design and order patches. You can choose between different styles:

• Standard Embroidered Patches
• Full color printed patches
• Genuine or synthetic leather patches
• 3D embroidered patches
• Rhinestone transfer patches, among others.

How to order custom patches?

1. Upload your design: Choose the image or logo you want to convert into a patch. The camping design used is Creative Fabrica and you can download it HERE.
2. Select the shape: Round, square, rectangular, oval or trimmed to the edge of the design.
3. Choose the thickness and color of the border: I selected a thick pink border with a white background.
4. Choose the type of support: You can choose between:
   • Heat application (recommended for clothing and fixed accessories)
   • Peel and stick adhesive (like a removable sticker)
   • Velcro (ideal if you want to exchange patches on different products)
5. Select size and quantity: Depending on the number of patches you order, you can get better prices.

Applying the embroidered patches

Once you receive the patches, you can adhere them to different clothing and accessories. In my case, I customized:

• T-shirts: Place the patch on the t-shirt, secure with heat-resistant tape, and use a heat press at 350°F for 20 seconds, pressing from the back.
• T-shirt sleeves: I followed the same procedure to add an extra detail to my t-shirts.
• Caps: I used a cap-specific heat press to ensure a professional finish. If you use a home iron, set it to high heat and press for 20 seconds. Place a piece of  paper of white packaging on top of the patch to protect it and also the fabric of the cap.
• Keychains: I created an original keychain by heat-gluing two patches together and adding a ring. It was perfect to hang on backpacks or keys.

If you don’t have a heat press, you can also use a homemade heat iron. Set the temperature to the highest level, press the patch on the garment for 20 seconds, then turn the garment over and press the patch from the back.
