I am happy to present you with an easy tutorial on how to DIY a double-sided placemat with perfect mitered corners. Don’t worry, the process is super easy for both beginners and sewing experts.

I have been preparing and sewing items to decorate my table this spring. Earlier on I went to Walmart looking for fabrics and found a nice variety from the Pioneer Woman patterns. I decided to DIY double-sided placemats with two sides to exchange them frequently. You won’t need as many materials. You could use the fabric of your choice. Whether cotton, linen or cotton canvas. I will use cotton fabric with a Pioneer Woman pattern and to give it stability, I will use Bosal Poly-Therm fleece.
List of Materials
- 1. 12″ x 17″ Fabric
- 1. 16 x 21″ Fabric
- 1. 12″ x 17″ Bosal Poly-Therm Fleece

Tutorial on How to Make Double-Sided Placemats with Mitered Corners
Step 1: How to Make Double-Sided Placemats with Perfect Corners
Prepare the fabric according to the measurements in the materials list above.

Step 2
Take the piece of fabric that measures 12″ by 17″ and draw two lines around it with the measurements as shown in the photo below.

Iron along scored lines to create pleats.

Step 3
Prepare the mitered corners. Fold corners in half, fold the 1/2″ pleat then fold corner to form a triangle and iron to create crease.

Mark the fold and cut the excess leaving a 1/4″ seam allowance. As shown in the photo below. Do the same in the remaining corners.

Pass seam to all marked and cut corners.

Step 4: How to Make Double-Sided Placemats with Mitered Corners
Turn it inside out, define the corners with a ruler and iron.

Take the piece of quilt battling and place it inside the rectangle.

Then place the last piece of fabric inside the rectangle with the right side out.

Pin, sew around [1/8″ up center fabric] and iron.

¡Voila! DIY Double-sided Placemat with Perfect Mitered Corners
