Gold Foil Invitation Cards with Cricut and a Laminator: Video Tutorial
Gold Foil Invitation Cards with Cricut and a Laminator: Written Instructions
Materials You’ll Need:
Cricut Machine: Ideally, Cricut Explore Air 2 or Cricut Maker for precise cutting and printing capabilities.
Printer: For this gold foil card making project, two printers will be needed. An Inkjet printer for color printing and a laser printer. Since the foil adheres to the laser printing.
Cardstock: High quality printable cardstock
Gold Foil: the foil for this project must be Reactive Foil, I use the Minc brand. They offer a variety of very pretty colors that do work for making foil cards. Foil application machine: you can use either a MINC laminating machine or a regular laminating machine.
Scissors or guillotine: to cut the foil.
Design Software: Cricut Design Space to prepare your card designs.
Heat-resistant tape (optional): To secure the film during the transfer process.
Copy paper: you can use a sheet of white printing paper folded in half to put the card and foil on.
Step 1: Design your Cards
Let’s create the design: Open your Cricut Design Space software and load the card background design you want to use. I acquire my designs or templates from Creative Fabrica. They have a wide variety of designs for cards for all occasions. I download them to my computer and then enter them into the Cricut Design Space canvas.
Once you have the background design on the canvas, adjust the size to your liking and then let’s start adding the information for the card or invitation. Press the T on the left to add text. For the example card I’m using, I’m using a calligraphy font called Adorable by Creative Fabrica. This font, give you the option to add glyphs. Here is a list of fonts with glyphs that you could explore.

After you have added the invitation information, select all the layers and duplicate it. For these cards, you will need to make two prints with two different printers. One Inkjet for the part with the color design and a laser printer for the part where we need to add the foil.
In the first copy, we are going to eliminate the text and leave only the colored design. In the second, we are going to eliminate the colored design and leave only the areas that we want to add foil. But always leaving the background the same size as the first card.
Select one by one and press flatten. Whenever we need to print and cut we must flatten the designs. After flattening, we will proceed with printing and cutting.

Step 2: Print and Cut the Cards
First we are going to print the image with the color design and it will be printed with an inkjet printer. Press send to printer, in the window you will select the Inkjet color printer, select add bleed and print.

To make these gold foil cards I will be using Koala matte printable cardstock.

After printing, cover the marked corners with paper triangles and masking tape. And then go on to do the laser printing.

Go back to the Cricut Design Space program, select the second print and send it to the laser printer. Remove the paper triangles and place the print in the upper left corner of the cutting pad and load it into your Cricut machine.

Return to the Cricut Design Space program and select the first colored print. Then select the material you are going to cut. I am going to select thick 100lb cardstock to obtain a very defined cut.

Cut your designs with any model of Cricut machine. I am cutting with my Cricut Maker machine.

Step 3: Apply the Foil to the Cards
There are many types of foil on the market and I have tried many but the one that has worked best for me is reactive foil. I like to use Minc brand Reactive Foil. They offer a wide variety of very pretty colors to choose from.

You could use a Minc foil applicator machine or a laminator also works perfectly. Choose the one that best suits your needs.

Cut a piece of foil paper to the same size as your printed design. Place the foil over the printed area, making sure it covers all laser inked parts.

Preheat the foil application machine or laminator according to the manufacturer’s instructions. I use both on setting number 3. Place the cardstock with the foil paper in the middle of a backing sheet or printing paper. Run it through the laminator, ensuring even application of pressure and heat.

Carefully peel off the foil from the cardboard. The foil should adhere to the printed areas, creating a beautiful gold foil effect. The cards with gold foil details look beautiful. Perfect for making cards for weddings, birthdays, quinceaneras and more. You can also embellish them further with additional decorations or sentiments as desired. If you would like to decorate the envelopes with gold stickers, I invite you to see the tutorial here.

Enjoy your elegant gold cards! Your personalized gold cards are now ready to impress! Whether it’s an invitation to a special event, a heartfelt note, or a thank you card, they’re sure to make a lasting impression.
¡Enjoy crafting!
