From Wood Scraps to Wall Art – EASY DIY

Sometimes the most beautiful ideas are born from the simplest materials. In this project I show you how I transformed some scraps of wood that I had stored at home into a personalized, rustic and charming decoration.

Use: If you don’t have a saw, you can buy pre-cut pieces of wood at a craft store like Hobby Lobby or in Amazon.

I started by cutting three 10 x 4.5 inch pieces of wood using my Vevor table saw. This tool gives me clean and precise cuts, ideal for working on small decorations.

After sanding the edges a bit, I applied a dark gray stain (I used the tone Weathered Gray) to highlight the natural grain. I left it on for a few minutes, wiped off the excess with a cloth and let it dry completely.

Once the wood was dry, I placed the DTF print on one of the pieces. I want to emphasize that the DTF is primarily designed for fabrics, many people do not know that it can also be successfully applied to other surfaces such as wood.

NOTE: If you don’t have a DTF design, you can use Iron-On or even permanent adhesive vinyl. Visit my YouTube channel to learn more about DTF prints.

🔒 Optional tip:

  • If you want to further protect your design, you can apply a layer of clear spray or brush sealant. This will help fix the DTF print better and give it a more durable, professional finish.
  • You can use a matte or glossy acrylic sealer, depending on the style you prefer.
    • Some good options are:
      • Clear Acrylic Spray Sealant
      • Mod Podge matte or glossy

It is not a mandatory step, but it is perfect if you want a more resistant and sealed finish.

I used my Vevor thermal press, adjusting the pressure for the thickness of the wood. This press is ideal because it allows me to work with materials thicker than fabric. In a few seconds, the phrase stuck perfectly.

I joined the three pieces of wood with nautical rope, creating a decorative pendant. The rustic style of the cord gives it a very nice artisanal feel. For this I used my Upholstery Staple Gun

To close the design, I added tassels with wooden beads at the bottom. I made these tassels myself with the same nautical rope and one-inch wooden beads. This small detail gave it movement and an even more special finish.

This rustic decoration is ideal for decorating a wall, a door or even as a handmade gift. The best of all is that it was made with recycled materials and with tools that I already had in my workshop.

💛 A decoration made with love… and with what I already had at home.
