DIY Fabric TOTE Bag | Sewing Sublimation Blanks #2.

I have started a series of tutorials on how to make my own sublimation blanks. In the previous tutorial I show you how to make a super easy cosmetic bag. If you want to see part 1 of this series, PRESS HERE to access the tutorial on how to make a cosmetic bag.

Today in this second part of the series, I will be showing you how to make a super simple TOTE BAG perfect to personalize with the method you choose. This will be made with 65% polyester and 35% cotton poly blend fabric so it will be perfect to sublimate.

14X15 ”= 36X38CM” 100% Polyester or Poly Cotton Fabric

NOTE: [If it is for sublimation, this first fabric must contain more than 65% polyester. If you do not need it for sublimation you may replace it for any other type of fabric]

14X15 ”= 36X38CM” Pieces of cotton fabric [or the fabric of your choice]

24×1 ” = 61×2 ½ cm webbing strap

4″ = 1 1/2cm Cardstock or paper square

You will also need a sewing machine, sewing machine thread, tape measure, ruler, scissors, and an iron.

INSTRUCTIONS:

STEP 1.

Prepare the fabric according to the measurements mentioned in the list of materials to be needed.

STEP 2.

Place and align all the layers of fabric together. Cotton fabric outside and polyester fabric inside. Cut 1 ½ ”by 1 ½” or 4×4 cm squares at the bottom corners of the bag.

STEP 3.

Attach and sew the straps: Place the ribbons or straps 4 ”= 10cm inside the edges.

NOTE: Place cotton fabric first, straps second and the polyester fabric on top.

Secure with pins and sew leaving a 1cm or 3/8 ”seam allowance..

The strap or ribbon and iron by folding the edge next to the cotton fabric or lining fabric.

Top Stitch on the side of the cotton fabric or lining.

STEP 4.

Sewing the bag:

– Place and align the two layers together with the straps on the inside

– Secure with pins,

– Mark a space of 5 ”= 12 1 / 2cm to leave a hole to be able to turn the bag over when finishing the seams.

– Leave  1cm or 3/8 ” seam allowance. Sew around leaving the corners and the space previously marked.

After sewing around, remove the pins and sew on the corners.

Turn it inside out, iron and sew the space left in the lining.

Iron and top stitch at the top of the bag leaving a 1cm or 3/8 inch seam allowance.

Ready!!!

You already have your tote bag ready to use it like this or to personalize it with the method that suits you best.

Since the outer layers of this bag are made of polyester fabric, it is perfect for sublimation.
