Hi there, and welcome! I’m Daisy, and today I’m thrilled to share something big with you—literally and creatively. I recently received the Monport Mega, a powerful 70W CO2 laser engraving and cutting machine, and in this blog, I’ll walk you through the unboxing, assembly, setup, and first tests. If you’re curious about what this laser machine can do and whether it’s right for your crafting or small business needs, you’re in the right place.

Unboxing and Setup Location
The Monport Mega arrived in a large wooden crate, extremely well protected with foam and padding to prevent any damage during shipping. It’s definitely a big machine, so be prepared for the size and weight. I quickly realized I would need a large, stable table to support it properly. Due to its size and the fact that it’s quite heavy, I decided to set it up in my garage—which turned out to be the most convenient and practical space for using this powerful laser.

What I loved? There’s no complicated assembly. You simply place a few included parts onto the machine and fill the water tank in the back (I’ll explain how below).

What’s Included
The box comes with everything you need to get started:
- Air hose
- Connectors
- Anti-freeze coolant
- Sample materials like acrylic, balsa wood, cardstock, and more

Easy Setup
One important step before starting to use the machine is filling the cooling tank of the CO2 laser with the proper mixture of water and antifreeze. This is essential to ensure safe and efficient operation. The correct ratio depends largely on the climate and region where you live, as this mixture helps regulate the laser tube’s temperature and prevents freezing or overheating. Most instruction manuals include a detailed chart with recommended proportions; for example, in my area, I use about 910 ml of water combined with 490 ml of antifreeze.

It’s crucial to follow these guidelines because improper cooling can damage the laser tube or lead to malfunctions. Once the tank is filled, the machine circulates the cooling liquid through the glass tube, and you should be able to hear the water flowing. This circulation is vital to maintain the laser’s performance and longevity. If the water does not flow correctly, it’s important to address the issue before use, as running the laser without proper cooling can cause serious damage or pose safety risks.

Software Options
The Monport Mega can be connected via USB or Wi-Fi, and it’s compatible with both LightBurn and Monport’s own M-Design software. I personally love using LightBurn for its flexibility, but Monport’s M-Design is perfect for beginners, offering one-click engraving parameters and a simple interface that lets you start right away.

Also included is a built-in camera, which gives you a live preview of your work area — perfect for precise alignment.

First Projects
I started by engraving a half-inch wood board. The detail was crisp and deep. Next, I tackled a cutting board for Father’s Day — it turned out beautifully with a professional finish.
Then came the acrylic! Using transparent acrylic, I engraved a name and cut it out in one go using M Design software. The built-in camera helped me align everything perfectly.
Laser Metal Marking Spray Test
Next, I tested the Monport Black Laser Engraving Spray for stainless steel. It applied evenly, and once engraved, the black design popped with professional contrast. This spray is a must-have for metal engraving fans!
👉 I’ll be giving away 60 bottles of this spray in collaboration with Monport — so be sure to subscribe and stay tuned!

Batch Engraving Example
A great surprise? Batch engraving is super easy. I took four scrap wooden boards I planned to toss and used them to create home decor signs — all at once! I used the M Design software’s “stamp” feature to duplicate the design across all pieces. They turned out beautiful, and the process was fast and efficient.

What Can It Engrave and Cut?
This machine is more than just good looks. I did several test projects on different materials:
- Solid wood – Clean, deep engravings with beautiful contrast.
- Large cutting board – Perfect for custom gifts for any special occasion like housewarming gift, like mother’s day, Father’s Day gifts, etc.
- Transparent and colored acrylic – Yes, it cuts and engraves even transparent acrylic with no problem.
- Batch engraving – You can engrave multiple items at once, which is a huge time-saver for small business owners or bulk projects.
Key Features I Love
Here are the standout features of the Monport Mega that made me fall in love with it:
- Powerful 70W CO2 Laser: Cuts through up to 25mm of wood or acrylic — that’s 40% more cutting capacity than many comparable machines.
- Large Working Area: Ideal for big projects and batch engraving.
- Deep Engraving on Transparent Acrylic: Not all lasers can do this. This one does it beautifully.
- Advanced Air Assist & Smoke Venting: Keeps your engraving clean and your studio safe.
- Water Cooling System: Maintains temperature and, if needed, automatically shuts down in case of flame detection. Super safe!
- Batch Engraving & Curved Surface Engraving: Save time while maintaining precision.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re running a small business or simply love to create, the Monport Mega gives you the tools and power to bring your ideas to life with precision. I’m excited to keep exploring its full potential—and I’ll be sharing more projects and tips very soon.
