How to Screen Print at Home with Iron-On & Cricut

In the previous tutorial, I showed you how to do screen printing at home using permanent vinyl. and Cricut . Today you will learn another incredible technique to achieve a similar effect, but this time using Thermoadhesive Textile Vinyl (Iron-On) and you Cricut Cutting Machine or any another cutting machine like Loklik, Cameo Silhouette. This way, you can choose the technique that best suits your projects.

With this method, you will get long-lasting and professional results without the need for emulsions or screens.

  1. Cut and remove the thermo-adhesive textile vinyl.
  2. Open Cricut Design Space and upload your design.
  3. Insert a rectangle and adjust it to 10 x 8 inches.
  4. Align your design to the center and press “Subtract” to create the stencil.
  5. Send to cut in Iron-On, but disable “mirror mode”.
  1. Place the stencil on the back of the screen printing mesh.
  2. Use a home iron or heat press to adhere at 330°F for 20 seconds.
  3. Remove the transparent film.
  4. Reinforce the edges with painter’s tape.
  1. Place the garment on a wooden base or flat surface.
  2. Use a lint remover roller to clean the fabric.
  3. Position the screen printing frame with the stencil on the garment.
  4. Apply a line of screen printing ink across the top. For this custom, use glitter gold screen printing ink.
  5. Use the squeegee at a 60° angle to distribute the ink in 2-3 firm strokes.
  6. Carefully lift the frame to reveal the design.
  1. Let the ink dry for 2 to 4 hours.
  2. To speed up, use a heat gun.
  3. Cure the design with a heat press at 330°F for 40 seconds.
  4. If you use a home iron, set it to the highest temperature for 40 seconds.
