I’ll show you how to cut and laser engrave on acrylic and also how to create cute custom acrylic keychains! You can create these beautiful keychains for personal use, gifts or for business. They are so attractive that they make a profitable business!

How to Make Acrylic Keychains

Open the Lightburn software. Here you can create your own template or use pre-made templates. I’m going to show you both ways, but first I’ll show you how to create your own template.

How to Create a Keychain Template on Lightburn

I will show you how to create your own keychain template using Lightburn.

  1. In the menu on the left, click on the figure you want in your design, for example, if you want a circular keychain, select the circle and draw it on the canvas, the outline must be black to indicate that it will be cut.
  2. Then change the measurements by clicking on the arrow, in this case the measurements will be 2.5 by 2.5. inches, before changing the measurements close the padlock so that it does not become distorted.
  3. To add text in the left menu, press A and type what you want. You can easily change the color by selecting the text and clicking on the desired color in the range shown below and selecting the font type from the top menu. The size and position is adjusted with the boxes around the text. Insert another circle inside the shape to cut the hole. Press the arrow and select the entire shape, then align it using the align and center icon.
  4. Change the color of the layers using the color palette below. Select one color for cutting and another for engraving. That’s how easy you can create your own designs or templates!
  5. In the menu on the right, select LAYERS, there you will see the color for the cutting and engraving area, in this case black has been selected for cutting and purple for engraving.
  6. Once we have everything above ready, we are going to proceed to change the cutting and engraving parameters. I will give you those parameters later, but first I will show you how to insert a pre-made keychain template.

Work with Premade Templates

Remember that you may use my FREE TEMPLATES.

Press the icon marked [import] and the files will be displayed. Select the template file, open it and you already have it in your canvas. Then change the cutting and engraving parameters. It is very important to take into account that when selecting the colors in the LAYERS option located on the right, that the filling should come first and the cutting second, you can change them simply by selecting and moving. The parameters for acrylic are; ENGRAVING/Fill 20% power and 3000 speed and for CUT/line 55% power and 120 speed.

How to Laser Cut Acrylic

You now have the designs ready and let’s cut! Press start or start and we go to the machine to align the acrylic.
Before aligning the 3 mm acrylic, remove the protective sticker that comes on only one side and place it with that side facing up. (These keychains are small so you can use any leftovers you have from another project)

You must adjust the height of the laser using this tool that comes with the machine, in this case we leave it on the 2nd or 3rd step.

To adjust it, loosen the top screw. Once you have adjusted the height, tighten the screw and remove the guide steps.

Return to the Lightburn program, press the frame icon and in this way we will be able to align the material to make a well aligned and centered cut. Let’s go to the laser machine.

You can move the material in the work area of the laser machine or you can move the design on the screen until it is well aligned.

Once the acrylic is aligned, return to the computer and press the start icon

Protection While Cutting and Engraving is Performed

When using this type of machines, it is recommended to use protective equipment such as laser glasses and a protective fume mask. If possible, place the cutting machine in a ventilated place.

In this way the cutting and engraving is done on the CREALITY FALCON 2 22W  Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine [ As these keychains are small, I am using remnants of acrylic that I have left over from another project]

Here you have the finished cut and you can remove the sticker on the back. With this machine you can cut yellow, red and green acrylic. With a 7.75″ x 7.75″ sheet of acrylic you can make 9 keychains that will look very beautiful.

To smooth the edges, I like to use a buffing block. 

Decorate

If you wish, you make decorate with the keychains accesories of your choice.

And ready! They have turned out beautiful! And just like that you have finished making these beautiful acrylic keychains.
